Air Force One touched down at Rome-Fiumicino International Airport at 2:24 AM local time.
TVs on in the press cabin were tuned to CNN for part of the flight including for Speaker Pelosi’s press conference.
Principal Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre and National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan gaggled during the flight. No other visitors to the press cabin.

President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr. of the United States of America exited AF1 at 2:36 AM with First Lady Dr. Jill Biden. He wore a dark suit and blue tie and she is wearing a red dress and coat with red heels.
They paused to speak with officials lined up on the tarmac before getting in the motorcade.

After a drive along the darkened highways and streets of Rome, including a glimpse of the Colosseum, the motorcade stopped at the US ambassador’s residence at 3:35 AM.
Press Pool did not see President Biden. At 3:40 AM pool vans began moving again.

Most of the White House Press Pool is pre-positioned in the courtyard of the Vatican, awaiting the arrival of President Biden and First Lady, so our ABC TV Press Pool will travel in the motorcade with President Biden (a long the way, we are told the motorcade length includes 85 vehicles).
Producer Ben Gittleson reports, President Biden's motorcade departed the Villa Taverna, of the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Rome, at 11:43 a.m..

President Joseph Robinette Biden, Jr.'s motorcade arrived at the courtyard of the Vatican at 11:59 a.m. President Biden and First Lady Dr. Biden stepped out of the Beast at 12:01 p.m. and shook hands with Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, the head of Papal Household, then went down a receiving line of about a half-dozen Papal Gentlemen to greet them.
President Biden is wearing a dark blue suit and First Lady is wearing a navy skirt suit with a mantilla. The first couple of the United States of America went inside at 12:03 p.m.

Upon arrival at the Vatican, President Biden and the First Lady will be greeted by Monsignor Leonardo Sapienza, Head of Papal Household.

The drive took the motorcade through Rome’s city center, where onlookers lined the sidewalks watching, waving, and using their cellphones to record the motorcade. The vehicles passed many of the sights that the president drove past after arriving in the early morning hours today.

The engagement between the two was very warm when the delegation arrived in the room. There was laughter and clear rapport between President Biden and Pope Francis.
At 1:33 PM, the expanded meeting began.

We got a relatively close shot from the opposite side of the Beast. We’re running to the van and will feed the tape as soon as possible.
A dozen members of the Swiss Guard stood nearby at attention as Biden departed.
Biden was proceeded by several officials from the Vatican and members of the Swiss Guard and followed by members of the US delegation.
